Beauty Tips

I have client after client sit in my chair. Each individual is very different and has their own set of concerns about their hair care or styling. Some want to control frizz, some want more volume, and others want to know how to make their color last longer. My personal favorite is, "How do I style this at home?" Well, I am here to all those questions.

Between salon visits, a good hair care regimen is key to maintaining that fabulous post-salon look, as well as healthy, lustrous locks. Here are a few tips I like to send with them on their way....

KEEP YOUR HAIR SHINY & HEALTHY

I always emphasize to my clients that foundations is key. You must start with the basics. You need 3 main products:

#1 and #2: The right shampoo and conditioner- You will need a combo that is tailored to your hair type and specific hair needs. For example, if your hair is colored or highlighted, you will need color-treated, or if you have problems with dryness, you will need something hydrating.  Sulfate-free products are the latest breakthrough in the hair industry. It keeps hair soft and shiny, and cleanses without the heavy lift and cleansing agents of normal shampoos, which tend to strip essential oils from the hair. It is wonderful for prolonging color as well.

Rinse your conditioner with cool water. Hot water will keep the cuticle open and strip nutrients from your hair. The cool water rinse closes the hair's cuticle and seals in moisture, leaving your tresses soft and lush.

#3: A great leave-in treatment. This provides consistent protection and repair from heat, styling and weather conditions. Especially, here in Florida where the humidity wreaks havoc on hair. I prefer the" It's a 10 product". It's like a miracle in a bottle.

COLOR TREATMENT

I offer deep conditioning treatments with all my color services. It is very important to restore the hair after any chemical service. After investing so much into getting that perfect shade you've been dreaming of or that flowing blowout, invest in the proper care.

Conditioning treatments are a vital factor in maintaining the health of your various styled tresses. A color glaze or smoothing complex are great services that prolong the fresh salon look. These treatments refresh your color, add shine and even seal the hair cuticle for extended wear.

Your stylist is able to tailor a blend of protein, pH balance, and hydration that is perfect for your hair needs. Try to have these done at least once a month for proper results.

STYLE YOUR HAIR DAILY

To maintain the overall look and condition of your hair one must do even minimal styling. Ok, ok....Everyone wants to wake up glamorous, with perfect hair...Not! That won't happen. Here are some tips to help you out with the morning mayhem:

1.Short hair- whether you blow dry or air dry, let's give that hair a little attention. grab some product, like a paste or wax. Rub a dime size amount in your hands, tousle and massage through hair, Then sculpt or piece out areas to create volume or smooth for a sleeker look.

2. Longer hair- proper combing and brushing is a must. Use a wide tooth comb (after applying leave-in) while hair is wet to detangle. Start at the ends and work upwards. This helps prevent breakage and frizz.

3. Curly or Natural Hair- apply curl cream or mousse to define curls. And let dry without to much manipulation. A smoothing serum, such as argan oil can also be applied to the ends to help with dryness. If your hair is natural, as mine is, and you straighten it, wrap the hair at night, cover with

a silk or satin scarf preserve the style. Unwrap in the morning and gentle brush out. This will protect the hair from drying out and being damaged by friction on your pillows.

4. For volume: Use a root lifter or volumizing gel at the crown of the head and the roots. Massage in and blow dry hair up and forward. I tell my clients to lean over and dry the hair upside down. It’s easy and gives maximum lift while blow drying.

When blow drying, dry the roots of your hair first, then get it 80 to 90 percent dry before using a brush. This will ensure more control, and a reduced styling time. If using a flat iron, always apply a heat protectant beforehand.

Now that we've covered that......

Once you have the basics covered, decide on a cut or style that suits your lifestyle. I like to find out my client's daily routine and then customize their style to fit them. Something that they can maintain easily and recreate once they leave my salon. Of course it would be wonderful if I could go home with them and style their hair everyday, as many often request...however that is not happening. So I send them with the tools they need to be confident in at home care until their next appointment.

We all want our hair to look glamorous. Let's face it. Regardless if you're a business professional, a fashionista, or a minimalist (wash and go) type of person, styling is important. A good....or bad hair day could make or break you. Our hair is one of the first things people notice and it can also effect your mood.

You now have the tools....get out there, pamper your hair a little, and be beautiful. Healthy hair is the best hair, no matter what length or texture.

Happy styling!
